From Saskatchewan Fashion Week to Shanghai Fashion Week

EDGE AGENCY International Models Montana Friskie and Jade Nedilenka took part in Saskatchewan Fashion Week (SFW) last May and this year found themselves on the World Stage of Shanghai Fashion Week (SHFWK). Montana and Jade both walked in last years SFW for Designers like Laurie Brown, Hillberg & Berk and Kazz Clothing to name a few. This year they are on the other side of the World walking the runway of Shanghai Fashion Week for Designers like Daniel Wang of WTC Couture, Mon Cheri and The New Classic to name a few.

The New Classic - Shanghai Fashion Week

Montana and Jade have walked in all of the last 3 Saskatchewan Fashion Weeks and both wish they could be home for a 4th. Both Montana and Jade were asked what differences they noticed between our local fashion week and Shanghai Fashion Week.

Q: What differences are clearly apparent between the 2 fashion weeks?

A: Shanghai Fashion Week like other major fashion weeks have seperate hair and makeup artists for each designer that you walk for. So you can have your hair and makeup changed several times a night, where at SFW, there is one hair and makeup look per night. SHFWK was presented in 2 seperate tents rather than one venue at SFW.

Q. How do our talented Saskatchewan Fashion Week Makeup and Hair teams compare to Shanghai?

A: SFW hair and makeup artists are more caring of models for sure! SFW artists ensure that all hair and makeup brushes are cleanded between model applications which didn't happen here in Shanghai.

SFW hair and makeup artists are also more organized with good scheduling. Shanghai was more kaotic and artists would have to share their products when others ran low and were running all over the place.

Q. How do our Saskatchewan Fashion Week Designers compare to garments made for Shanghai Fashion Week?

A: Shanghai designer garments seemed to be finished in a factory. They were not tailored for the individual model, the models had to wear what was made from the factory in whatever size fit them best. SFW designers are sewing clothes just for you, which brings more heart into it.

For the most part there are creative minds all over the world and if you are in Saskatchewan or in a huge city like Shanghai, the designers are all the same. Incredibly talented!
